On occasions the chart refresh rate can seem slow - why ?

The refresh rate on the chart data is to the nearest second and represents a new 'trade' in the tick feed.
If there is no new data then the chart will not refresh.

The FOREX data feed received in RTTESS from IQfeed is the tick feed direct from either FXCM or Barclays. No data is missed out and it is not delayed (see note 1). RTTESS collects the data to the nearest second. The data and market provided by FXCM and Barclays is the market at their banks. Because there is no central exchange or clearing organization for Forex transactions, every contributor (bank) has a different "market". The feed from FXCM or Barclays is not going to tick as often as something from Esignal where they have GTIS forex providing multiple contributors via a composite tick. Other suppliers may also use composite feeds.

Comparing the data to a Spread Betting organisation may show differences because the Spread Betting organisations can alter their prices as they wish and move the spreads to suit their own preferences.

Out of hours data
The refresh rate will be slower at times when the volume of trading is lower.

Using the 1 minute chart to check data
If the data feed seems slow when it should not be this can be checked by :
1. Load a 1 minute chart for the same symbol.
2. Switch on the volume in the lower part of the chart
3. Switch on the Floating Data Box.
4. Examine the volume figures for the 'minute' that there seemed to be slow data.
5. If the volume was very low or zero then this would confirm that the number of trades were low at the time and the slow refresh rate was correct.
Note : A fresh 1 Minute chart is built from the historical data provided by the data supplier.

Internet Connections
A poor Internet connection can account for a slow refresh rate.
Test the connection by temporarily using a different Internet connection if possible.

Wireless Network Connections
On some occasions wireless connections between the computer and the Internet can have an effect on the data feed. The protocols involved in wireless connections are usually 'tougher' than a hard wired link which can effect the rate of data transfer.
Test the connection by temporarily using a fully wired connection if possible.

Firewalls, Virus Checkers, and other software conflicts
On some occasions firewalls, virus checkers and other software can conflicting with the data feed connections. Consult with your suppliers of these items to establish how they can be set to not interfere with the data connection.

Popup Blockers
On some occasions popup blockers can prevent the fresh data being received.
It may be that the sensitivity is set too high.
Consult with your supplier to establish how they can be set to not interfere with the data connection.
